Birthday
When I was thinking about what I was going to do for my child's
first "real" birthday party (one that wasn't mostly adult relatives, that
is), my first fear was, "How am going to manage ten little over-excited
children, when I can barely keep up with my own two?"
A few key things I learned was: (and there are some helpful
web links too).
Keep them all engaged in the same activity at the same time.
Eliminate lines, turns and waiting. When we do parties here at Party
Adventures, we focus on team oriented games such as clue games, relay races,
crafts and hunts are a few examples. You will know where all the
kids in your group are and they won't be wandering around your house.
Have cool down times after higher activity events such as a craft,
reading or story time, or a magic show. This helps de-escalate the
noise and excitement levels.
Plan more activities than you think you will need. It makes
me think of the time when my Dad underestimated how many wasps were in
the nest. It was in an odd and difficult spot to reach and he put
in the vacuum nozzle at that small entrance hole to rid us of them.
You can hear what seemed like hundreds go into the previously empty vacuum
bag, and then the bag was full and there were still many, now rather angry,
wasps left in that nest. I can't remember the ending of that story,
he suggested we go inside because "Plan B" (which he didn't have yet) did
not allow children to hang around. Since he had plan, we ran inside
and played. But the theme of the story is -- you don't want to be
caught with a bunch of over-excited children looking at you for what
to do next and not have a real "Plan B".
If you go to a public area where your party may be mixed in with
everyone else, we suggest giving a party favor such as a bandana or
even a bright orange oversized tee shirt that the birthday child decorated
so you can easily see who is in your group. Even if you know all
the children, your helpers might not.
With little ones, I put a name tag on both their chest and back.
That way I call to them whether they are coming or going! Saying
their name has much more impact that "hey little fellow, don't play with
the dog's tail!"

Family Reunions
Family Reunions are a blast. Cousins see cousins, sibling get to
talk and laugh and there is always lots of food. Some of the best
times I've had at family reunions is when there is something to entertain
the children and teens who have absolutely no interest in simply "catching
up" or laughing about "old times". Creating a theme can all
add fun to an event, we have some links below to help those creative ideas
flow...
Some of the ideas that have worked well for us
and our customers are:
Setting up a craft table
Disposable cameras are a HUGE success with kids
Inviting an entertainer to do a magic, clown, juggling show
Set up face painting so the children can paint themselves or each other
Renting the bouncer (children will be completely exhausted at the end
of the day!)
Preplanning a "clue" game, make it a bit harder so the older kids are
required to join in ....
